coimbra's botanical garden

it's been a while that we took advantage of the winter sun to take a walk in the most beautiful coimbra's garden: the botanical. being a part of the university, it's a classical garden in a romantic style, with it's geometrical shapes and some lines of water feeding some fountains and small lakes.

in this trip we just walked through the open space, without visit nurserys or reserved areas, a lot more spectacular and exotic by the glances we snapped here-and-there. so this pics are mainly about big trees from all continents and about the unlimited collection of old magnolias, and also about some of the buildings that still survive around there...

and i say survive, couse depending directly from university they seem a little abondoned, even with the never ending works and nets in this difficult times: there's no money for employes, and even less for keeping old buildings!

even so, and even though the small size of the open area, it's a graden that worths a visit: very pleasunt for a nice walk or just for sit there, relax and enjoy a different nature. i suppose we may visit other areas, but only by some type of reserve!
maybe in the future i'll show here more pics of that areas, couse i had a glance through a hole in a window of the nursery and i was surprised by a fantastic collection of all types of orchids and tropical plants. unfortunatly i don't have any pics of it...

and like this our wonderful journey came to an end, not before we could delight ourself with this huge tropical tree (ficus?) that could be an entire house in itself...

I love the old, established gardens, like this one. It's lovely that people have dedicated so many years to keeping the gardens and large trees growing. Thank you for the tour!
